Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are used in Indian laboratories and industries for antimicrobial products, conductive inks, sensors and catalysis. Choosing the right product means matching size, coating and form to your application. This guide from Aritech Nanomaterials India walks through the options.
Particle size
Silver nanoparticles are commonly offered from about 10 nm to 100 nm, with silver powders and flakes extending into the micron range. Smaller particles have more surface area and stronger antimicrobial and catalytic activity, while larger particles and flakes are preferred in conductive pastes, where they pack into dense, conductive layers.
- 10–30 nm: antimicrobial studies, SERS, catalysis, biosensors
- 30–100 nm: inks, coatings and general research
- Micron powders and flakes: conductive pastes and adhesives
Surface coating: PVP, citrate or uncoated
Stabilisers prevent the particles from clumping together. PVP-coated silver nanoparticles disperse well in water and alcohols and are robust in many formulations. Citrate-coated particles are common in biological and SERS work because citrate is easily displaced. Uncoated powders are used where an organic layer is unwanted, for example in some sintered inks, but they agglomerate more easily.
Powder or dispersion?
Dry silver nanopowder is convenient for compounding into polymers or pastes. Silver nanoparticle dispersions are ready to use in coatings, textiles and biological tests, and avoid handling dry nanopowder. When ordering a dispersion, specify the solvent and concentration.
Common applications in India
- Antimicrobial coatings, textiles and packaging research
- Printed electronics and conductive inks
- Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrates
- Colorimetric and electrochemical biosensors
- Catalysis and photocatalysis
- Solar cell metallisation research
Storage
Store silver nanoparticles and dispersions tightly closed, protected from light and at the temperature on the data sheet. Avoid freezing dispersions, and shake or briefly sonicate before use.
Frequently Asked Questions
What size of silver nanoparticles is best for antimicrobial use?
Smaller particles, typically below about 30 nm, release silver ions faster and generally show stronger antimicrobial activity. The final choice depends on your formulation and test method.
Can silver nanoparticles be supplied in a custom solvent?
Many silver dispersions can be prepared in water, ethanol, IPA or other solvents at a requested concentration. Share your requirement for a quotation.
Do you supply silver nanoparticles across India?
Yes. Aritech Nanomaterials India supplies silver nanoparticles to labs and companies across India with an INR quotation, GST invoice, COA and SDS.
